  1.                  Document Responsibility in PennInfo

  4. There are over 70 providers of information in PennInfo.  Each provider 
  5. is responsible for the information they contribute.  Users of PennInfo 
  6. are accustomed to being able to identify who is responsible for any 
  7. topic on any menu in PennInfo through the use of a 'Get Info' option.  
  8. This functionality is not natively available in Gopher software at 
  9. this time.

  11. An alternative mechanism has been created by Data Communications
  12. and Computing Services (DCCS) to allow Gopher users to identify
  13. which organization at the University of Pennsylvania is responsible
  14. for PennInfo information:

  17. Step 1
  18. ======
  19. Use your gopher client to request information about the PennInfo topic.  
  20. Use whatever mechanism is provided by your application to get this 
  21. information.

  24. Step 2
  25. ======
  26. Look at the 'Path' information and note the last word in the path.  The 
  27. last word in the path is the organization responsible for the PennInfo 
  28. information (known as a 'Source'). For example, the Unix gopher client 
  29. displays the following information about a topic on a menu called 
  30. 'PennInfo Version 3.9 Available':

  32.      Name=PennInfo Version 3.9 Available
  33.      Type=0
  34.      Port=71
  35.      Path=D penninfo-srv.upenn.edu 9000 8615 Admin

  37. Notice that the last word in the 'Path' is 'Admin.'  This means that 
  38. 'Admin' is the organization that contributed the information -- the 
  39. 'Source'.

  44. Now that you have the name of 'Source,' you can search the document 
  45. 'Providers of Information (Sources) List' to retrieve the contact name,
  46. phone number, and an electronic mail address associated with your
  47. 'Source.'
